چکیده
PURPOSE We aimed to determine the apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) of focal breast lesions on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) and to evaluate whether ADC measurement can be used to characterize lesions as benign or malignant. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-one patients between the ages of 18-79 years (mean age, 48.5 years) with 51 histopathologically verified breast lesions were included in this study. The patients were examined with a 1.5 Tesla system using a bilateral phased-array breast coil. Spin-echo echo-planar imaging was used. The images were obtained with b values of 50, 400, and 800 s/mm(2). The ADC values were calculated for breast lesions and for normal fibroglandular tissue. Receiver operating characteristics analyses were performed to find the threshold ADC values. RESULTS The mean ADC was 1.42 ± 0.17 × 10(-3) mm(2)/s for normal fibroglandular tissue, 1.9 ± 0.45 × 10(-3) mm(2)/s for benign lesions, and 0.86 ± 0.26 × 10(-3) mm(2)/s for malignant lesions. The threshold ADC value to differentiate bening and malignant lesions was 1.03 × 10(-3) mm(2)/s (sensitivity, 88.5%; specificity, 100%). With the ADC ratio (lesion to normal fibroglandular tissue), the threshold was 0.8 (sensitivity, 91.4%; specificity, 100%). The ADC value obtained from malignant lesions was statistically different from that of benign lesions (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Diffusion-weighted imaging can be used to differentiate malignant and benign breast lesions.

Differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions by apparent diffusion coefficient value in mass and non-mass lesions
Background: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is one of methods in evaluation of breast lesions. We aimed to investigate the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in breast tumors and their accuracy in differentiating benign versus malignant lesions. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 72 patients with 88 breast lesions were investigated by 1.5-T breast MRI from 2015 to 2017 in Athari...
متن کاملRole of Apparent diffusion coefficient value in Diffusion Weighted imaging of MRI to assessment of radiotherapy efficiency in the patient with glioma tumor during treatment
Introduction: Glioma is the most common primary malignancy of cerebral neoplasms in adults, which in spite of therapeutic significant efforts, has a very poor prognosis. The current standard treatment of these patients generally includes surgery and radiotherapy or concurrent chemoradiotherapy with 6 courses of adjuvant use of temozolomide tabs. During these years, the nervous...

متن کاملExploring the Possibility of Estimating Degree of Glioma Tumors by Measuring Apparent Diffusion Coefficient
Introduction: Most common glioma tumors are tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) which are the cause of about 40 to 50 percent of brain tumors. This type of cancer includes 2 to 3 percent of cancers in the world. Conventional MRI is powerless in the detection and differentiation of benign and malignant tumors. In this case, diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) can create cont...

The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs), the relative apparent diffusion coefficient (rADC), and the pathological prognostic factor human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) in patients with breast cancer. A total of 64 women with breast cancer underwent breast diffusion-weighted imaging. HER-2 expression was detected in his...
